  • A party of Innugaakalikurit (arctic dwarves) discovers a crude catapult on a high peak in Novularond. The Innugaakalikurit disassemble the device and take the parts home with them. A day later, an enraged group of frost giant tracks down the Innugaakalikurit and demands the return of the weapon. The Innugaakalikurit refuse. The frost giants respond by attacking and destroying an Innugakalikurit village.

    To avoid an all out war, the elders of Gronne intervene, volunteering to negotiate a settlement. The Gronne elders ultimately find the Innugaakalkurit guilty of theft; the frost giants are awarded custody of the dwarven thieves. The frost giants make slaves of the prisoners; descendents of the prisoners remain enslaved today. »

  • The Sossrim humans of the Armridge Mountains defeat an invasion of frost giants led by the chieftain Orbrud of the Pines with the aid of wind elemental-bourne warriors sent by Arkhan Tallos I of Raumathar. The Sossrim pledge their fealty to the realm of Raumathar. »

  • 123 DR [Year of the Icy Axe]
  • Uthgar dies from wounds received in battle with Gurt, Lord of the Pale Giants, at the present-day site of Morgur's Mound. His nomad human followers call themselves the Uthgardt in his honor and form tribes based on the beast spirits he was said to have tamed in his lifetime.

    Tempus elevates Uthgar to the rank of demigod for his deeds. »

  • The armies of Phalorm defend the neighboring realm of Yarlith from attacks by orcs led by the frost giant Horthgar. »

  • The winter of this year is the coldest and snowiest in memory. Frost giants wander as far south as Longsaddle. »

  • 1369 DR [Year of the Gauntlet]
  • Highharvestide Arcturia, one of Halaster's apprentices, is slain in Undermountain by four frost giants (members of the Twisted Rune) in the Room of the Grim Statue. Despite her death, she still managed to kill two fo the giants and was able to activate her contingency magic to remove her corpse and leave an illusion of her dead body. After Arcturia's body was returned to her sancuary, she rises as an undead creature known as a worm that walks.

    The arch-mage Shradin Mulophor (who is without Halaster's protection due to his abduction) is shouted to death by the Skulls of Skullport, and the Skulls become the undisputed masters of Skullport in Undermountain. The form of Shradin and all his possessions instantly turns into a pale red mist and floats away. The Skulls had actually transformed him into an entity capable of feeding on the physical components of victims and channeling that power into the mantle surrounding Skullport.

    With Shradin and the Rag Mage, 2 Skulls are now able to escape the confines of their prison for a short period of time, typically into the halls of Undermountain. They try to keep this fact from becoming common knowledge.

    Halaster, who had foreseen this possibility long ago, is sure to oppose the Skulls in their attempts to be free of the mantle of Skullport. »

  • It is discovered that giants are driving the trolls out of the High Moor area. Cloud, fog, frost and hill giants are reported. Some are friendly, but most are not (especially the group of giants sent by Gerti Orelsdottr, daughter of the leader of the largest frost giant clans of the Spine of the World Mountains. »

  • 1370 DR [Year of the Tankard]
  • Nightal Gandalug Battlehammer, the First and Ninth King of Mithral Hall dies of old age in the waning days of this year. Thibbledorf Pwent and the famed Gutbuster Brigade are dispatched to Icewind Dale to inform Bruenor Battlehammer, Eighth King of Mithral Hall that he was now the Tenth King of Mithral Hall.

    As Bruenor trekked back to Mithral Hall from Icewind Dale, they came across two survivors of a dwarven caravan that included Duggan McKnuckles, Bokkum and Stokkum. All 3 died in the attack. Events thereafter led them to Shallows, which Bruenor sought to defend from Obould's horde, led by his son Urlgen.

    Drizzt Do'Urden distracts some frost giants, leading them on a chase which leeds to him entering a cave system through a narrow gap. The giants are unable to follow him inside, and block off the entrance with boulders. Drizzt spends several days looking for an alternative way out, and when he finds one, he returns near to Shallows to witness the collapse of its wizard tower, with a figure he thought to be Bruenor on it (it is in fact Dagnabbit Waybeard, son of Mithral Hall's dwarven general Dagna Waybeard). Dagnabbit is killed, whom Drizz't assumes is Bruenor. »

  • The orc hordes of King Obould Many-Arrows swarm out of the Underdark and lay siege to Mithral Hall.

    Acting in concert, the two-headed troll Proffit and his army of trolls attacks and destroys Nesme. Dagna Waybeard, dwarven general of Mithral Hall is killed in battle. Banak Brawnanvil is injured by a goblin spear, his spine broken, he is unable to use his legs (the gnome alchemist Nanfoodle Buswilligan would later makes a wheelchair for Banak).

    Catti-brie sneaks up on a pair of orcs at a campfire east of Shallows before realizing it was an ambush. She is outnumbered heavily and succumbs to the stones, spears and other weapons used against her, but not before slaying a number of the orcs. She believes that she is going to die, but is rescued by Wulfgar who single-handedly eliminates most of the orcs, causing the remainder to flee.

    In another conflict with frost giants, Catti-brie is crippled when her legs are struck by a giant thrown boulder. Khazid'hea, the sentient sword, realizes that Catti-brie can no longer wield it. The sword dominates Delly Curtie and forces her to give up Colson to Cottie Cooperson and travel north behind the enemy orc lines. Delly comes upon some orcs and falls in battle with them. Khazid'hea, passes from orc to orc, until Drizz't Do'Urden eventually gains possession of it. Drizz't uses it in battle against Obould. The blade gets stuck in the orcs enchanted armor and Obould tries to wield it, only to toss it away when the sentient sword tries to communicate with the orc, believing it to be some sort of trickery.

    Khazid'hea is eventually found by the drow, Tos'un Armgo. Later realizing that he doesn't have as much command over the weapon as he believed, Tos'un returns the sword to Drizzt who donates it to the elves of the Moonwood for study. »

  • 1484 DR [Year of the Awakened Sleepers]
  • The drow wizard Tsabrak Xorlarrin channels the Darkening upon the Silver Marches under order of Lolth.

    A large army of orcs and drow, supported by Frost giants and White dragons, assault the Silver Marches.
