    Time of the elves in Seros (the Inner Sea). The Second Epoch officially begins with the building of the undersea capital of Aryselmalyr, and ends with forty years of war between the sea elves and other undersea races. It is also during this Epoch that the first land dwellers began exploration of the waters (wizards of Netheril), the initial migration of shalarin into the Inner Sea, and the trapping of the sahuagin behind the Sharksbane Wall. »

  • Birth of Nether the Elder, the founder of future Netheril. »

  • Several villages on the shores of the Narrow Sea (Fenwick, Gers, Gilan, Gustaf, Moran, Nauseef, and Janick) combine for mutual protection, forming the Alliance of Seventon, which later becomes Netheril. »

  • -3856 DR
  • The shaman king Nether demands more and more tribute from the united villages and renames the kingdom Netheril, which meant Nether's Land. »

  • -3848 DR
  • Alandril Nether, also known as Nether the Younger, son of Nether the Elder is born in Netheril. »

  • -3847 DR
  • The Abbey of the Moon, a temple to Selune, is established in Netheril. It served as a retreat as well as a place of learning for hundreds of years. »

  • -3845 DR
  • The Eaerlanni elves begin discreetly observing and trading with outlying Netherese settlements. »

  • -3830 DR
  • The Eaerlanni elves initiate a formal dialogue with humans of Netheril and begin instructing promising Netherese students in the Art. Netheril's first arcanist (wizard) is Therion of Gers. »

  • -3827 DR
  • Nether the Elder announces plans to abolish the rulers of the other villages and oversea the Seventon region from his home in Gers. During the night of celebrating, Alandril kills his father. Speculation suggested that Nether the Elder would have passed rule on to his more ruthless third son, Darzal. The Netherese chose a form of government based loosely on democracy. »

  • Trade begins between the humans of Netheril and elves of Illefarn. »

  • -3772 DR
  • Death of (Alandril) Nether the Younger in Netheril. »

  • -3727 DR
  • Word reaches the Netherese of a nation of humanlike rock creatures dwelling in earthen mountains and hills in the west. »

  • -3655 DR
  • Scouts from Netheril, while in search of the rumored humanlike rock creatures meet a Rengarth (nomadic human barbarians) hunting party and befriend them. »

  • Orcs pour forth from the Spine of the World, but the elves of Eaerlann and Illefarn turn them back with help from the fledgling Netherese Empire and the Reingarth barbarians. The tribal lands of the Rengarth are absorbed into Netheril, although the barbarians remain largely autonomous. »

  • -3654 DR
  • A sarrukh lich of tremendous power disguises himself as a human archwizard and appears to the Netherese who have begun to learn magic from the Earlanni elves. Although he calls himself Arthindol, the Netherese dub him "Terraseer" for his power to see events all over the world. The Terraseer teaches secrets of the Art to humans and reappears to help them over the coming centuries, never seeming to age. Among his achievements are translations from many of the nether scrolls, the exploration of the Sword Coast North, the occupation of Old Owl Well, and the warning of impending doom at the hands of Karsus among many other prophecies and teachings. »

  • The Netherese begin to enslave the rock gnomes living in the hills nearby. »

  • -3637 DR
  • The small village of Zenith is established and believed to be the northern-most town in all of Netheril. Situated on a narrow strip of land and surrounded by the Narrow Sea, it seemed a logical place to build a great port city.

    Unfortunately, trade was still in its infancy when Zenith was established. By the time trade became a major issue in Netheril, the city of Northreach had already been established and Harborage served as a stopping place for all east-west trade upon the sea. »

  • -3605 DR
  • Orcs pour from the Spine of the World but elves turn them back in a great slaughter with help from the fledgling Netheril. This orc incursion lasts nineteen years. »

  • -3552 DR
  • The Netherese found Runlatha, a port on the Narrow Sea. »

  • The city of Northreach is established in Netheril. When Netheril was reaching farther west in an effort to first find the dwarves, Northreach was one of the settlements that was established in an effort to shore up supplies for the explorers. Behind Seventon, it is probably one of Netheril's oldest cities. »
