    Time of the elves in Seros (the Inner Sea). The Second Epoch officially begins with the building of the undersea capital of Aryselmalyr, and ends with forty years of war between the sea elves and other undersea races. It is also during this Epoch that the first land dwellers began exploration of the waters (wizards of Netheril), the initial migration of shalarin into the Inner Sea, and the trapping of the sahuagin behind the Sharksbane Wall. »

  • The First Shalarin Passing:
    The obyrinth lord Dagon, eldest of Those Who Sleep Below, sets in motion his plan to control the depths of Seros. The first wildtide portal opens, and the shalarins arrive within Seros from the Sea of Corynactis, their home on the far side of Toril, west of Maztica. Immediately attacked by the magically attuned Emerald Eye and the madmen Kyron and Essyl, the shalarin lose more than 17 percent of their number. Tivaan, the Dukar orders, and Hmurbar all rush to the aid of the shalarin and quickly gain powerful allies. »

  • Shalarin survivors of the Third Seros War settle Es'krin on the northern Hmur Pateau. Alliances with the Dukars and the Four Arcana Humbar provide protectors for the city-state until it can restore its own warrior caste. »

  • The Second Shalarin Passing
    Below the Hmur Plateau, the wildtide portal opens again and more shalarin emigrates to Seros. Initially, many of the new shalarin come to Es'krin, through some move farther east and look for a home of their own. »

  • Start of the Fifth Seros War
  • -788 DR to -777 DR
    Vaequiis the Dark, the paranoid sea elf ruler, initiates the Fifth Seros War against the shalarin kingdom of Es'krin following the Second Shalarin Passing. Her mobilizing troops around Es'krin and the northern Hmur Plateau prompts other allied and neutral states of Seros to ally against her, so in desperation, the coronal allies herself with a pair of krakens, Borapalys and Rylurkarth, from the Trench of Lopok. »

  • -777 DR
  • End of the Fifth Seros War:
    The Fifth Seros War ends following the deaths of Vaeqiis II Merynth and her kraken allies, the result of sacrifices by a small band of Dukars of the Jhimari Order, but not before the destruction of the shalarin kingdom of Es'krin and the morkoth magecracy known as the Arcana of Humbar. Aryselmalyr's new ruler (approved by the four Grand Dukars as well as the elf nobility) is Coronal Pravis Orlson, who restores the peace missed for over six centuries. Kayas the Krakenscourge the traditional weapon of the Triton Protectorates of the Sea of Fallen Stars, passes into the possession of the Orlson Dynasty. »

  • Rise of Es'rath
    The surviving shalarin, having quietly slipped into the deeper waters left vacant by the morkoth, announce the official rise of Es'rath, the shalarin kingdom of the deep. Its close ties to the Dukars and its own power keep Aryselmalyr at bay. »

  • -215 DR [Year of the Oracle]
  • End of the Sixth Seros War
    The new powers of Seros are shalarin As'arem, the morkoth Theocracy of the Deep Ones, and the merfolk Kingdom of Hmurrath. The Rise of Hmurrath signals the start of the Third Epoch. »

  • -106 DR [Year of the Valorous Kobold]
  • End of the Seventh Seros War
    The war ends with the surprising appearance of ling-hidden triton forces from the deeper trenches of the sea. Breaking the back of the Theocracy and sending the morkoth fleeing back into the depths, the tritons help maintain the balance among the shalarins and the morkoths on the floor of Seros. »

  • -69 DR [Year of No Regrets]
  • The Third Shalarin Passing
    For once, the shalarins arrive to a peaceful Seros, and they quickly establish two more shalarin kingdoms within thirty years. Es'daan and Es'purr. »

  • -51 DR [Year of the Cluttered Desk]
  • Rise of As'arem
    The three shalarin kingdoms of Es'rath, Es'daan, and Es'purr unite under one eadar (emperor) and now rule the twilight waters form the Humr Plateau to the coast of what shall become the surface-state of Thesk. »

  • The Eighth Seros War
  • 319 DR to 321 DR
    Conflict between the shalarins of As'arem and the merfolk of Hmurrath against the ixitxachitl of Paolan Reef. »

  • 660 DR [Year of the Morning Horn]
  • The Laws of Battle is drafted by the merfolk, shalarin, and Dukars after the end of the Ninth Seros War to avoid the kind of genocidal violence from ever fouling the waters of Seros ever again. »

  • 916 DR [Year of the Sinhala]
  • The shalarins of the Fourth Passing and children of other generations found the new kingdom of Es'roch, further expanding As'arem in Seros. »

  • 1369 DR [Year of the Gauntlet]
  • Eleasis 13 Morkoth of Qatoris get wind of plans among the morkoth of Olleth and mobilize a few Dukars to rally allies among the good races to fight Iakhovas and his army. The rest of this month sees the alliance slowly build among the shalarin of Es'rath, the tritons of Vuuvax and Pumana, and merfolk of Voalidru. »

  • Eleint 2 Surprise sahuagin attacks on the Ola, Aya, and Yea clan hatcheries of Es'rath cause the deaths of over 1,000 unhatched shalarin. Over 200 shalarin and sahuagin perish »

  • Highharvestide The still-grieving shalarin Eadar Ri'ola'con names the 21-year-old Ri'ola'kirk his heir, as his own father perishes unsuccessfully defending the clan hatcheries at Ys'ivis. »

  • Marpenoth 29 The Nantarn Alliance comes together at Xadea and Myth Nantar, with sea elves, shalarin, merfolk, and morkoth all working together. Central players are the long-hidden shalarin Dukar Tu'uua'col, the displaced Princesses Jian and Arina and Prince Mirol of Voalidru, the tritons Keros the Wanderer and Tribune Akkys of Vuuvax. On the Uktar 1, 1369 DR, Tu'uua'col touches the Barrier along with the collected High Mages, and with one note (sung by Pacys from inside the mythal), the Barrier falls.

  • Feast of the Moon End of the Twelfth Seros War
    The Nantarn Feasts collect the allied races at Myth Nantar to celebrate the end of the Twelfth Seros War. To the surprise of many, the Dukar Orders make themselves known to Seros for the first time in over six hundred years. Numerous shalarins, morkoths, sea elves, and some surface-world immigrants join the Dukars to become the peacekeepers of Myth Nantar and the Nantarn Alliance. »

  • 1371 DR [Year of the Unstrung Harp]
  • The Fifth Shalarin Passing
    Shalarins are once again swept out of the Sea of Corynactis and into the Sea of Fallen Stars. This fifth and final passing results in a permanent portal between the two seas. The shalarins of As'arem and the new arrivals endeaver to keep the existence of the portal as quiet as possible, fearing the reprecussions to both communities if word of its existence gets out to other folk of Faerun.

    In the interval between the Fourth Passing and the Fifth Passing, the Corynactisian shalarins all but abandoned their ancient deities, who had grown silent. The cult of Dagon is now the predominant religion in the Sea of Corynactis, and those shalarins opposed to its butgeoning influence were largely swept up by the Fifth Passing and deposited in Seros. Once the Serosian shalarins realize the danger, they largely cut off travel between the two communities. However, the cult of Corynactis, as it is also known, has already taken root among their community, and its ranks continue to grow in secret among their number. »
