  • Illuskans begin farming the plateau above Deepwater Habor (the future site of Waterdeep), and for two and a half centuries their rule of the area is uncontested. »

  • Northmen begin settling the Twilit Lands - the coastal area between present-day Neverwinter and Waterdeep. »

  • 168 DR [Year of Scattered Stars]
  • A wizard of unknown ancestry calling himself Halaster Blackcloak later identified as the Raurinese wizard Hilather builds a tower (using summoned demons and other outsiders) and a fortified ramparts in the middle of the Deepwater Plateau, to the north and west of the burgeoning farms along the harbor shore in Waterdeep. The tower is called Halaster's Hold. He is accompanied by his apprentices (which included Arcturia). He begins exploration of the Underhalls of the Melairkyn and claims the delvings for himself.

    Halaster discovers the remnants of the Sargauth Enclave, and recognizing the danger posed by the future Skulls of Skullport, retreats from their area and forbids his apprentices from investigating the area. »

  • 307 DR [Year of Sundered Sails]
  • The Seven (Arcturia, Jhesiyra Kestellharp, Muiral the Misshapen, Nester, Marambra Nyghsteel, Rantantar, and Trobriand the Metal Mage), Halaster's apprentices, abandon the surface Hold and enter the dark ways of Undermountain hoping to establish their own holdings. The tower and surface holdings fall into decay and ruin, and the tribes of Blackcloak Hold, as the settlement had come to be known, quickly grows. »

  • After many years of exterminating large pockets of drow and duergar, Halaster Blackcloak now rules the Underhalls of Undermountain beneath Waterdeep. »

  • The Magister Eleedra Nathchant is killed by the mage-for-hire Eldrus Wands, the infamous patriarch of the Waterdeep Wands family.

  • Ulbaerag Bloodhand and his people conquer the settled tribes, uniting the tribes as one. Irrigation of the farms starts and extensive building begins around the harbor area of future Waterdeep. »

  • Growing bored of his duties and of grasping, petty human mages, the Magister Morglord asks Mystra for release from his office. She agrees, and Morglord is transformed into a sentient gate in or around Waterdeep. »

  • 767 DR [Year of the Awakening Wyrm]
  • Dornal Silverhand suspects that his wife, the half-elf Elue Shundar, is possessed by an evil spirit. His suspicions are confirmed when he asks a local priest for magical divination (the priest not able to know that the possessing spirit was in fact the goddess Mystra). Dornal slays his wife, which is when Mystra reveals herself to him. Devastated by the fact that he had slain his wife, Dornal wanders the realms, searching for his death (although Mystra watches over him and keeps him from it).

    Mystra, desperate to keep the 7th child alive, makes an arrangement with the drow goddess Elistraee, and places the spirit of the unborn child in the body of a drow worshipper of Elistraee (who was also pregnant, but the child had died in her womb). The drow mother gave birth to QiluƩ Veladorn, the 7th sister.

    Some time this year, an infant Qilue and her playmates manage to kill an avatar of Ghaunadaur and seal off the Pit of Ghaunadaur. »

  • 882 DR [Year of the Curse]
  • A great human warrior known as Nimor the Reaver gathers an armed host and leads them in search of a new home. They come upon Bloodhand Hold and decide to seize it for their own, quickly vanquishing the Bloodhand tribe. The settlement is named Nimoar's Hold, raised at the city's current north end fortified by a log palisade. The city walls expand around the Hold and the city's perimeter. »

  • 887 DR [Year of Fell Pearls]
  • Southern pirates attack Nimoar's Hold in force, but the Reaver's followers beat them back three times in a row. »

  • 889 DR [Year of the Shining Shield]
  • The Tethyrian Bull Elk tribe attacks Nimoar's Hold and sets it afire. The Reaver's followers drive off the barbarian raiders and rebuild the hold before the first winter snow. »

  • 927 DR [Year of the Red Rain]
  • Ahghairon of Waterdeep arrives in Silverymoon and is taught magic by numerous tutors, including the High Mage Threskaal. »

  • First Trollwar: Gangs of trolls begin attacking Nimoar's Hold with increasing regularity. In response, the aging Nimoar leads his forces northward against the Everlasting Ones in what becomes known as the First Trollwar, burning uncounted square miles of the Evermoors in the process. »

    In the aftermath of the Orcfasting Wars, Nimoar dies of old age, and the mantle of "War Lord" passes to Gharl, his most accomplished general. Nimoar's Hold grows and prospers, and the fledgling community becomes known among ship captains as the town of Waterdeep. »

  • Second Trollwar: Beginning with Amphail the Just, who reigned for a year, six warriors claim the mantle of War Lord of Waterdeep during the next twelve years, each only to fall in never-ending battle as the defenders of Waterdeep battle gangs of trolls throughout the Dessarin River valley. Despite the hardships, Waterdeep's population grows as tribes gather within her walls for safety. »

  • King Rauragh of Uruth Ukrypt plans to bring orc bands through the subterranean routes of the Underdark and then sweep on to Waterdeep, but Palarandusk the Sun Dragon destroys the orc horde before it can properly form. »
